Air Fryer Chicken Tikka Masala

I’m excited to share one of my favorite dishes: air fryer chicken tikka masala. This dish, known for its rich flavors and creamy sauce, is a staple in Indian cuisine and loved worldwide.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon ground fenugreek (for extra flavor)

Instructions

2. Add 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon ground coriander, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon garam masala, 1 teaspoon paprika, 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional), and salt to taste.

3. Mix well to form a smooth paste.

4. Add the chicken cubes to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated.

5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. For best results, marinate overnight.

6. Preheat the air fryer to 360°F (180°C).

7. Lightly grease the air fryer basket with vegetable oil.

8. Place the marinated chicken pieces in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.

9. Cook for 15-18 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through for even cooking.

Notes

Always check the internal temperature of the chicken. It should reach 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
