Ingredients
- 6-ounce Halibut Fillets: 4 pieces, about 1 inch thick for even cooking.
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil: For brushing the fillets. Avocado oil is a great alternative.
- 1 teaspoon Sea Salt: To season. Himalayan pink salt is a good substitute.
- 1 teaspoon Chili Powder: For a bit of heat. Reduce to ½ teaspoon for milder flavor.
- 1 teaspoon Paprika: Adds a smoky flavor. Use smoked paprika for an intense smoke profile.
- 1 Lemon: Sliced thin, for serving. Lime is a nice alternative for a different twist.
Instructions
1. Prepare the halibut by patting the fillets dry with paper towels. Moisture on the surface can prevent them from getting crispy.
2. Brush or lightly drizzle the fillets with olive oil on both sides. You can also use an oil spray for a lower-fat option.
3. Season the fillets generously. Combine sea salt, chili powder, and paprika in a bowl. Sprinkle over both sides of the fillets. Feel free to adjust the amounts based on your preference.
4. Preheat your air fryer to 360°F. This air fryer temperature setting ensures a crispy exterior while keeping the inside moist. While it’s heating up, lightly grease the air fryer basket or tray with cooking spray or a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.
5. Arrange the fillets in the air fryer basket. Make sure they’re not touching to allow air flow around each piece for even cooking.
6. Cook the halibut for 10 minutes. Halfway through, flip the fillets to ensure even crispiness on both sides. The exact cooking time will depend on the thickness of your fillets and your desired level of doneness.
7. Use an instant-read thermometer to check the internal temperature. Halibut is fully cooked when it reaches an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C) and easily flakes with a fork.
8. Once cooked, remove the halibut from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with lemon wedges and any additional desired toppings, like herbs or compound butter.
Notes
Always ensure your air fryer is preheated for the best results. Not all air fryers are created equal, so temperature control and cooking times may need slight adjustments based on your model.
