Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (whole wheat or gluten-free work too)
- 1 large egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tbsp dried)
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Ingredient Substitutions and Variations:
- Ground turkey: You can substitute with ground chicken if you prefer.
- Breadcrumbs: Use panko for extra crunch, or almond flour for a low-carb option.
- Italian seasoning: Create your own blend with basil, oregano, and thyme.
- Parmesan cheese: Feel free to skip this for a dairy-free version or add some nutritional yeast for a cheesy flavor without the dairy.
Instructions
1. Prepare Ingredients: Finely grate the onion and mince the garlic.
2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, grated onion, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and optional Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.
3. Form Meatballs: Using your hands or a small scoop, form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
4. Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for about 3 minutes.
5. Arrange Meatballs: Place the meatballs in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd; cook in batches if necessary.
6. Cook Meatballs: Cook the meatballs for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking. They should be golden brown and have an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
Notes
Ensure meatballs are of equal size for even cooking. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to allow proper air circulation.
