Gobi Manchurian Air Fryer

Gobi Manchurian Air Fryer

Gobi Manchurian made in an air fryer is not just easy but yields a dish that’s crispy on the outside with tender cauliflower inside.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup water (adjust as needed to form a batter)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or sugar)
  • Spring onions, for garnish

Substitutions:

  • Gluten-free flour for all-purpose flour

Tamari for soy sauce to make it gluten-free

Instructions

1. Preparation of Cauliflower:

  • Wash the cauliflower florets and pat them dry.
  • In a large bowl, mix all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth batter is formed.

2. Coating the Cauliflower:

  • Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, ensuring it’s well coated.
  • Shake off the excess batter before placing the florets in the air fryer basket.

3. Air Frying:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (190°C).
  • Arrange the battered florets in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded to allow for even air circulation.
  • Cook for 20-25 minutes, or until the florets are golden and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.

4. Preparing the Sauce:

  • While the cauliflower cooks, prepare the sauce by mixing soy sauce, tomato ketchup, chili sauce, vinegar, and honey in a bowl.

5. Combining Cauliflower and Sauce:

  •  Once the cauliflower is cooked, toss it in the sauce until evenly coated.
  • Garnish with chopped spring onions.

6. Serving:

  • Serve the Gobi Manchurian hot as an appetizer or side dish.

Notes

  • Seasoning Variations: Feel free to adjust the sauce ingredients based on your taste preferences. More chili sauce can be added for a spicier dish or increase the honey for a sweeter profile.
  • Cooking Time: Depending on the air fryer model, cooking times may vary. Start checking the cauliflower at the 15-minute mark to avoid overcooking.
  • Arrangement: Proper arrangement in the air fryer basket is crucial for achieving the perfect texture. Do not stack the florets on top of each other.
  • Serving Suggestions: Gobi Manchurian can be enjoyed on its own or served with a side of steamed rice or noodles for a fuller meal.
