Air Fryer Tandoori Chicken Legs

Air Fryer Tandoori Chicken Legs

Air fryer tandoori chicken legs is a great choice for anyone who loves flavorful, juicy chicken with a fraction of the effort. This healthy air fryer recipe brings the authentic taste of tandoori chicken into your home without the need for a traditional tandoor.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 chicken drumsticks
  • 1 cup yogurt (preferably Greek)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp garam masala
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (optional, for extra moisture)
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro (for garnish, optional)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving, optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the chicken: Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.

2. Marinate the chicken: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, paprika, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garlic paste, ginger paste, chili powder, and salt. Mix well until the marinade is smooth.

3. Add the chicken: Place the chicken drumsticks in the bowl with the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated. For best results, cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for deeper flavor.

4. Preheat the air fryer: About 10 minutes before you’re ready to cook, preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).

5. Optional step: If you prefer extra moisture, lightly brush the chicken drumsticks with vegetable oil before placing them in the air fryer.

6. Arrange the chicken: Place the marinated chicken drumsticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Make sure they are not overcrowded to allow for even cooking.

7. Set the air fryer: Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes. Flip the chicken halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.

8. Check for doneness: The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and is crispy and golden on the outside.

9. Rest the chicken: Let the cooked chicken rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps retain its juices and enhances flavor.

10. Serve: Garnish with fresh cilantro and lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

Cooking times may vary slightly based on the size of your drumsticks and the specific model of your air fryer. Always check for doneness to ensure the chicken is thoroughly cooked.
